Doubling Down On Data: How to Navigate Market Chaos With Confidence
Announcements:
- Chapter meeting this month is Virtual only (Webinar)
- The Options Special Interest Group will meet on June 28. See Chapter Information/#SIGs for details on all SIG meetings.
Presentation Summary:
Today’s presentation focuses on Asbury Research’s data-driven approach to investing. That is, simply qualifying and quantifying what our technical and quantitative metrics are indicating about the health of the market in multiple timeframes, rather than on forecasting which we believe is a euphemism for guessing. We will go through all of our own proprietary models and model portfolios, explain how they were constructed, reveal how they have performed versus the benchmark S&P 500 over the past 6-7 years, and finally what they are saying about the market now.
- How we use Asbury Research models and model portfolios to manage money for our clients
- Using risk adjusted metrics to determine how good (or bad) your strategy is
- Why forecasting is not a repeatable process

John has more than 40 years of experience analyzing, forecasting, and trading global financial markets. Asbury Research is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) that provides data‐driven technical and quantitative investment research and asset management to professional and private investors. Asbury Research has been recognized as one of the Top Five Investment Research Services Providers in 2024 by Financials Services Review.
John began his career in 1980 on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange trading floor and spent the next 17 years there, acquiring a practical, real‐world education on how the US financial markets work from the inside out. This experience, early in his career, became the foundation for his unique analytical approach and deep understanding of what really drives financial asset prices. John’s proprietary blend of technical and quantitative inputs, and Asbury Research’s own quantitative models and investment portfolios, are more forward‐looking, agile, and actionable than the typical Wall Street approach.
John is very visible in the media. He is a regular contributor to Forbes, Investors Business Daily, The Schwab Network, and StockCharts.com, and has been providing educational webinars for Fidelity Investments for the past decade.
John has also been quoted by prominent US and global financial news organizations throughout his career including The Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch.com, Barron’s, Yahoo! Finance, and Reuters.
