Dr. Derek K. Yonai has taught economics and free enterprise education courses at George Mason University, Campbell University, Florida Southern and Emporia State University. He has given numerous radio interviews discussing the connection between economic freedom and human flourishing. Dr. Yonai has earned multiple teaching awards.
From 2003 to 2013, Dr. Yonai was the Lundy Chair of the Philosophy of Business in the School of Business and an Adjunct Professor at the School of Law at Campbell University. While at Campbell he oversaw its free enterprise education program and its economics program. He also taught the school of business’s signature course, Philosophy of Business, which introduces students to the ideas of free markets, personal liberty, and limited government.
Dr. Yonai earned a BA in economics, and graduated with honors from Whittier College School of Law. He holds an MA in economics and a Ph.D. from George Mason University.
In his talk, “Business, Relationships, and Flourishing”, Dr. Yonai will discuss how business activity, properly understood, is pro-social and pro-human. He will discuss how business is viewed by the public and how it mischaracterizes business’ role in society. He will address: how we arrived at viewing business in a negative light, how we can fix that, and why it matters. Properly understanding the role of business and unleashing the creativity of people, we can reduce poverty, increase employment, increase incomes, and make the world a better place for human flourishing.
